Developed by an in-house informatics team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, myhealth@QEHB is a state-of-the-art electronic portal that allows patients to access their patient record from a remote location. Patients can access clinical information including laboratory results and letters, remotely update their Consultant about their condition, store and share information, book appointments and receive reminders, all from the comfort of their own home.

Initially, the portal was trialled by Dr. James Ferguson, Consultant Hepatologist, with a number of liver patients. Since reviewing the system, it is now being phased in to 11 other specialties for patients in long-term care.
myhealth@QEHB has been labelled as the UK’s first patient-focused social network, as it allows patients to be supported and provide support for other patients by sharing information, advice and friendship.

The trial was funded by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) Charity.
